楓の木 at 東照宮　The Hue tree at Toshogu shrine

紀州東照宮の「楓の木」は真冬でも葉が落ちないことで有名です。「落ちない」と言う言葉は受験生にとって福音ですので、多くの受験生が合格を祈って、この木にお参りします。

The Hue tree at Toshogu shrine is famous because it’s leaves would not fall so easily even during the middle of the winter. The phrase “would not fall” sounds like “good news” for entrance examination students. Therefore, lots of  them come to pray for the successful results.
