After a long spell of rainy days, it cleared up miraculously today (July 15th), and we held a paper play show at the base of Wakayama Castle. Since it was hot, we held the show under the shade of wisteria plant. Many people of about 35 participated. And out of them, there were vistors from Nederland and Thailand. One of them said to me after the show, “Is the show about the history of Wakayama Castle? I could not understand the language but the pictures were very good.”
On July 13th, I had a chance to guide a Taiwanese family. I was happy to meet such a nice family. We enjoyed walking in and around Wakayama Castle and visited Wakayama Castle zoo where visitors can see animals free of charge. Their summer holidays at school have already started. My sons are independent of me. We have few opportunities to travel together. It seems many Japanese cannot afford a long vacation until retirement age. However, when I guide close families, I can share happy feelings with them.
Today, on July 7th, I was blessed with a chance to be able to guide four medical students from Taiwan. They were pleasant, polite and intelligent and I was given a lot of energy from them while guiding about one hour and a half.
It’s getting hot and humid, but are you doing well? Some tourists are full of beans. We enjoyed strolling around Wakayama Castle with Taiwanese family the other day. A lot of trees gave us the cool shade and it was cool and nice at the observation deck of the castle tower. In July, we will guide tourists only in the morning (from 10a.m.～) for free on weekend and national holiday. In August, the schedule becomes irregular so please check the schedule on our home page beforehand. If you need a guide to match your schedule, please send us your request.
Among the environment of deep green foliage, the paper-play-show of “The story of Wakayama Castle” was conducted twice today at the base of the Castle. On the first show, audience of 22 and on the second, 18 watched the show. On the first show, 5 vistors from Hong Kong also joined. They seemed to enjoy the show even though they could not understand the narrations in Japanese.
Following last year, on this year also, we performed a paper play show of Yoshimune to the audience of the 6th grade of Santa elementary school. After that, we performed a magic show as well. They seem to be engulfed by the show. (The photo was taken on 28th Jan. 2019.)
They are from California. American enjoy traveling after they retired. There are similarities between the guide and the travelers, including age, interest and appearances.
Wakayama City Guide Club guide you around the Wakayama Castle on Saturday, Sunday and a national holiday.(10a.m.～ 1p.m.～) for free. It’s our pleasure to help tourist in our town.
Some of us guide foreign tourists in English. If it is the free guide day and happen to encounter an English speaking guide, you’re so lucky. However such a good opportunity is rare. So if you plan to visit Wakayama City, please reserve an English guide in advance.
